Universal Care: Supporting all youth in our Holistic Family-Style Residences with trauma intervention and life skills.

Specialized Focus: Staff who work in our Identity-Affirming Residence receive Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, or Gender Expression training to support our high-demand LGBTQIA2S+ referrals.

Job Summary:

The Child and Youth Mentor is essential to HOPE's mission, providing trauma-informed, family-style care and fostering independence for vulnerable youth aged 2-23.

This role delivers individualized, relational healing and mentorship by implementing support plans, providing crisis intervention, and actively coaching youth through our specialized, outcome-focused programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver care rooted in Empathy and understanding trauma, building trust with youth.

  • Provide one-on-one mentorship and crisis intervention within our Holistic Family-Style or specialized Identity-Affirming Residences.

  • Offer support to youth in various external settings, including shelters, hospitals, family homes, and community partners, as part of our Fee-for-Service offerings.

  • Actively implement and model life skills aimed at enhancing self-advocacy and independence (Self-Efficacy).

  • Coach youth through core programs: HOPE Wealth Builders (financial literacy) and HOPE Kitchen/Hands (practical skills).

  • Utilize training to provide Cultural Responsiveness for youth in the Identity-Affirming stream (HOPE Pride Program).

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation (shift reports, incident reports, Plan of Care tracking).

  • Adhere strictly to all regulations under the CYFSA and the Quality Standards Framework.

  • Ensure safe transportation and assist with daily living tasks as required.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Community College Diploma or University Degree in a Social Services field.

  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience supporting children or youth with complex needs and trauma histories.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed practice is critical.

  • Current Broad Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check (accepted within the last 6 months).

  • Current Child Welfare Record Check (obtained from local Children’s Aid Society).

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.

  • Crisis training (CPI, UMAB, SMG, TCI).

  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License and current Driver’s Abstract.

  • Access to an insured vehicle with $2 million liability insurance.

  • Up-to-date immunizations and TB test
